1. We are here to help
We want your stay with us to be relaxing and rewarding. If there is anything we can do to help you whilst you are here, you can contact us through any of the below methods:
By email to stay@polrunnyfarm.com
By phone 07885 591849
Or by knocking on our front door – we live in the house you are looking at when you enter our courtyard.
2. Facilities inside your cottage
Key safe. We have only provided you with one key to your cottage. If your group is going out at different times, we suggest that you leave your key in your key safe so that whoever is back first can access it.
Electricity. You shouldn’t have any trouble with the electrics whilst you are here. If a switch does trip, your consumer unit is located as follows:
ELDERBERRY: To the top left of the front door
SEABERRY: On the right wall as you enter the property
SLOE: Behind the large white panel inside left of the tall cupboard in the kitchen.
BLACKBERRY: Above the large cupboard to the left of the kitchen
BLUEBERRY: In the cupboard to the right of the front door
If you aren’t comfortable resetting a trip switch, then please flag the issue up to us and we will sort it.
Central heating. We have set your thermostat to a base level that will keep your cottage warm. If you would like it warmer or cooler, all you need to do is press the ‘plus’ or ‘minus’ button on your thermostat. Note the thermostat will reset to its’ base level each night, so whenever you want to adjust the temperature, use the ‘plus’ and ‘minus’ buttons. Please do not try and set all periods as this affects future guests.
Kitchen appliances. Instructions for each of the kitchen appliances are kept in a folder in the kitchen.
Kitchen equipment. Your kitchen is well-stocked with equipment and utensils. If there is anything that you need that we haven’t provided, please ask. For example we can provide a slow cooker upon request.
Accidents can and do happen. If you break anything in the cottage, then please let us know. We will do our best to replace it.
Drinking water. Polrunny Farm’s water comes from a natural spring. It is filtered as it reaches the property and is delicious to drink!
TVs. Your TV is internet enabled and you can use it to log on to Netflix, YouTube etc. Please log out before leaving.
Bluetooth speaker. Each cottage contains a Bluetooth speaker. In Blackberry, Elderberry and Seaberry, the lamp in your kitchen/diner contains a speaker. In Sloe, your light box speaker is in the kitchen. Ensure that the Bluetooth speaker/lamp is turned on at the plug, and then position your phone close to it and search for the Bluetooth signal as per your phone’s processes.
Linen and pillows. Each cottage is equipped with throws, spare blankets and towels for your stay and we hope you sleep soundly. Please do not take the blue towels to the beach. If you require a change of linen please ask and don’t feel the need to wash any yourself.
Shower. The showers in our cottages are electric. For all cottages except Sloe and Blueberry, please pull the chord in the bathroom to turn the electrics for the shower on before operating the shower itself. Sloe and Blueberry have remotely controlled showers and you simply turn it on and off at the wall as required.
If your cottage has a bath, the glass shower screen can be retracted. Simply move the screen away from the base and lift and slot the base into the wall fitting.
Toilets. Our plumbing can only cope with natural waste and toilet paper. Please do not flush sanitary products, cleaning wipes of any kind, ear buds Etc. down the toilet. Use the bathroom bins for these.
Washing facilities. Each cottage has a washing machine, ironing facilities and pegs for the line in the farm garden (next to the swings). Sloe cottage has a washer dryer.
Airing your cottage. Please do open the windows when it’s comfortable to do so. Stone cottages need to breath to keep dampness in check.
3. Fire safety inside your cottage
Your cottage is fitted with a modern inter-connected heat and smoke alarm system and with carbon monoxide monitors. We test the system weekly during change-overs.
In the event of an incident, all alarms in the individual cottage will be triggered.
In the event of a fire, raise the alarm and evacuate through the nearest exit without taking your possessions, making sure doors are shut behind you.
We do not recommend that you try to tackle any fire, but we have left fire blankets and fire extinguishers in the kitchen. Please take time to familiarise yourself with their locations and usage instructions.
Emergency torches (one in the 1-beds; two in the 2-beds) are provided to help you locate the cottage’s exit in the event of a fire. These torches are constantly charging and come on automatically during a power outage. This feature has added value in the event of a power cut. Children should be encouraged not to play with the torches.
For your safety we recommend leaving the front door key in the inside lock during your stay to ensure ease of exit.
Dial 999 and ask for the Fire service. Give the address Polrunny Farm, Boscastle, PL35 0EL.
We would ask that you make us aware of any fire (we are likely to hear anyway but please make us aware so that we can alert other guests).
The fire assembly point is in the Breakfast Garden - on the grass across the road from the cottages.
If the smoke alarm is activated by accident, i.e. when toast crumbs in the toaster set it off, you can stop the alarm by pressing the 'silence alarm' button on your fire alarm console. In Blackberry and Elderberry, your console is located above your microwave. Sloe's console is in the tall cupboard at the left-hand end of the kitchen. And in Seaberry, your console is on the outside right of the cupboard to the left of the boiler.
4. Car parking
At Polrunny Farm. We have five cottages. So long as everyone parks considerately, there is room for five cars. Those staying in Elderberry and Seaberry are asked to park in front of the main house straight opposite the entrance to the courtyard. If you are staying in Sloe or Blueberry you can park in the gravel area past your cottage.
Those staying in Blackberry Cottage can park in the gravel entrance drive to their cottage (5 yards further down the hill, passed our main courtyard).
There is further car parking at the top level of our site should your party be bringing more than one car. The access to this overflow parking is 50 yards back up the hill.
Car parks when you are out and about. Cornwall Council run many of the car parks in the county. As well as taking cards and cash, the Council’s car parks use the JustPark App.
The council also offers a ROVER ticket. At £47 for a week, this is not cheap, but if you are out all day every day and perhaps to multiple destinations per day, it can work out best and is also one less thing to worry about. The Rover ticket is accepted at most if not all of the Council’s carparks. See the Cornwall Council or JustPark websites for information on purchasing the Rover tickets; and for details of carpark opening times.
Some of the car parks you will want to use are run by the National Trust or by private land owners. These car parks might take card payments, but it isn’t unusual to find a car park that only accepts cash – especially in remote valleys where no mobile signal can be obtained.
5. Charging your electric vehicle
There are five EV chargers at Polrunny Farm, all Type 2, 22 kw untethered chargers.
Elderberry and Seaberry’s charge points are located in the courtyard opposite the entrance. Blueberry’s and Sloe’s are on the back wall past the two cottages. Blackberry’s charger is located a 2 minute walk from the cottage, outside the large sheds, the entrance to which is 50 yards back up the lane from your cottage.
Follow the steps below to charge your vehicle:
a) We run our chargers via the Tap Electric app. When connected to the Wifi in your cottage, download the Tap Electric app.
b) Open the app, then click on the black and white icon on the top right of the screen, next to the blue Tap flag, which opens the camera.
c) Go to your charger and scan the QR Code found on the side of your charger. This should bring up information on your charger and the cost of charging.
d) Click ‘Charge here’. You’ll be asked to input your payment details.
e) Connect your car in the normal way and away you go.
If you have any questions or
are struggling to use your charger, feel free to ask.
6. Facilities in the farm’s gardens
There are four communal areas that guests are welcome to use whilst at Polrunny Farm.
Breakfast garden. Our breakfast garden is located across the lane from the main entrance. Containing tables and chairs and our new stone BBQ, this area is the best place to enjoy the sea and rural views across the valley.
Courtyard garden. Our courtyard garden is a sheltered area, ideal for those wanting to read the papers or to enjoy a coffee before a busy day’s exploring. You should be able to access the farm’s Wi-Fi from the courtyard garden.
Farm garden. Our farm garden contains our children’s play equipment, and tables and chairs. It is the ideal spot to relax at the end of the day. To get to the farm garden, turn left as you exit the courtyard. A couple of yards down the hill, take the gravel path around the back of the cottages and then access the garden via the stone steps. The washing line is also located in the farm garden.
The top field. Guests are welcome to use our top field, accessible from the top of the farm garden.
BBQ equipment (charcoal, fire lighters, a BBQ chimney) to use with the stone BBQ in the breakfast garden, and some outdoor garden games are provided in the mini shed located in the courtyard next to the bins. If the BBQ ash tray is full, when cold, please empty it into the 'Ash Bin'. Do not empty hot ash onto the grass or neighbouring field.
7. Health and safety
Health and safety whilst on our farm.
Please take care when out and about on our site. There are some steep inclines and descents, and our ‘farm garden’ is accessible via steps which can be slippery when wet.
Also, it is vitally important that you supervise your children when they are outdoors. The lane that cuts through our site might be quiet, but it only takes one car or bike to cause an accident.
In our gardens you will find play equipment that is suitable for young children. This play equipment complies with relevant health and safety standards, but again, accidents can happen. Children must be supervised when using this equipment.
Medical assistance.
There is a first aid kit located in the kitchen / lounge of your cottage.
Boots in Tintagel is the nearest chemist to Polrunny Farm.
Our nearest dentist is Morwenna dental surgery in Bude (01288 352340) or Park Chambers dental practice in Wadebridge (01208 812450).
The nearest Doctors surgery is Bottreaux Surgery. The surgery is down the hill from our cottages, across the road from the Napoleon Inn. The surgery can be contacted on 01840 250209.
The nearest minor injuries unit is at Stratton Hospital, Hospital Rd, Stratton, Bude EX23 9BR.
If you cannot make the doctor and it is not an emergency, call 111. For medical emergencies dial 999 and give the full postal address Polrunny Farm, Boscastle, PL35 0EL.
Other Emergency numbers
999 can be used without credit on your phone, or from a locked phone. This is also the number for police, fire brigade & coastguard.
101 is the non-emergency number for the police.
8. Refuse and recycling
The farm’s refuse and recycling point is located to the far left (with the lane behind you) of the horseshoe of cottages – past Sloe Cottage.
At Polrunny Farm we are committed to recycling as much of our waste as we can. We try to make it as easy as possible for you to recycle too. Place recyclable items in the green recycling bag provided in your cottage. Should it fill up, you can empty it in to the large recycling bin in the courtyard. This is a mixed recycling bin, but please separate bottles into the black tub next to the bin.
Items that we can recycle in Cornwall include washed glass, paper, cardboard, washed clear plastic and washed cans.
Any non-recyclable waste should be put in the kitchen bin provided and the kitchen bin emptied into the general waste bin in the courtyard.
There is a dog waste bin at the entrance to our field above the farm garden.
Should you have any other items for recycling (batteries, textiles etc), please leave them next to your bin when you leave and we will dispose of them in an appropriate manner.
9. Dogs
We love dogs at Polrunny Farm, but we can’t guarantee that all of our guests do, so we ask all dog owners to keep their dog(s) on a lead whilst they are out and about in our breakfast garden, courtyard garden and farm garden.
Owners are welcome to let their dog(s) run free in our top field. Owners should note though that the fencing / hedging in our field is not dog-proof. Your dog will be able to escape the field if it is of a mind to do so.
It should also be noted that neighbouring fields are likely to contain cattle. If your dog is likely to bother cattle, you should not let it off the lead, and if you do so, you do it at your own (and your dog’s) risk.
We ask dog owners to clear up after their dogs. If you are bringing a dog with you, poo bags are provided in your welcome pack. Please use the dog bin at the top of the farm garden, by the top field.
If dogs are particularly sandy / muddy, we know that you will do your best to clean them up before they enter your cottage. Feel free to use the outside hose and dog shower located in front of Blueberry cottage. We have also provided you with dog towels and blankets.
The nearest vets is Penbode in Camelford - 01840 213277
10. Shopping
There are lots of food shops available locally. Feel free to borrow the shopping bag provided in each cottage.
Boscastle’s award-winning Farm Shop and Cafe is located across the valley from our farm. Follow our road down the hill into Boscastle and take the main road past the Cobweb. The Farm Shop sells lovely local produce and gifts. The café enjoys great views over the sea. Milk can be refilled here using their machine.
Boscastle Stores is located right next to the car park in Boscastle. It has a milk vending machine and sells local produce. There is a small Premier Foods supermarket at the top of Boscastle - turn left just after the Napoleon Inn. They do good home-produced curries!
The award-winning pasties in Boscastle bakery are also definitely worth sampling during your stay.
The Spar in Boscastle is a Post office and convenience shop selling most holiday essentials. It also has an ATM – the only one in Boscastle.
Morrison’s, Lidl and Sainsbury’s are in Bude. Wadebridge and Launceston have a Tesco. Most of the supermarket chains deliver to the cottages.
11. Local travel
Whilst most people that stay at Polrunny Farm do have a car, believe it or not some people do visit us without their own transport.
Walking. The 30-minute walk into Boscastle is a lovely walk, but only for those that don’t mind hills. Simply turn left out of our drive and keep heading down hill, past the Napoleon Inn (The Nap) and through the village and you will reach the harbour.
Bus. The 95 bus runs along the coast through Boscastle. The nearest stop is outside the Doctor’s surgery. Turning right at the sea (North East), it takes you through Crackington Haven and to Widemouth Bay and Bude. Turning left (South West) it goes through Tintagel and then heads slightly inland to Camelford and Wadebridge. Some 95s go as far as Truro. It isn’t the most frequent bus route you will have ever encountered so check the timetable on the internet before you set out.
Taxi. BosCars are based locally – 07790 983911
Jewels taxis based locally – 07860 351756
Boscastle Cars – 01840 250858
Note: because we are a little more remote in Cornwall, if you order a taxi, plan on it taking a little longer to come than taxis in other parts of the world.
12. When you leave us
You should vacate your cottage by 10am. As per our terms and conditions, we reserve the right to levy an hourly fee if you leave after 10am.
We don’t expect you to clean your property (that’s our job!) but we would ask that you put furniture back where you found it, and leave the kitchen tidy, with all washing up done. We would also appreciate it if you emptied your bins before you go.
And don’t forget to put your key back in the key safe!
We will email the lead guest the day before you are due to leave with a reminder of check-out arrangements.
Wishing you a great holiday!
Adam and Melanie
